Image of Age Grants Program
The 2007 Images of Age Grants encourage the involvement and recognition of senior Victorians in art and cultural activity.
Images of Age Grants will support creative art and cultural projects that promote positive messages on what it means to grow older and to celebrate the contribution that older people make to the community.
In 2007-08 Twelve Neighbourhood Houses have been allocated up to $20,000 funding for the following projects:
| Laverton Community Centre and Neighbourhood House | 'Laverton’s Telling Stories' – a series of workshops over 4 months bringing together seniors and secondary students to share stories through photography, creative writing and the spoken word. |
| Maldon Neighbourhood Centre Inc. | 'A True Picture of Self' – students at three schools in the Maldon area will work with local artists and seniors over a period of eight weeks to create an exhibition of digital photos capturing issues that affect older people in their community. |
| Mahogany Neighbourhood Centre Inc. (Frankston North) | 'Images on Fabric – the Journey of Ageing' – seniors from the Bosnian community will depict their history and migration experience, celebrating family, courage, sacrifice and justice through quilt-making. |
| Rochester Community House Inc | 'I Can, You Can' – students from Rochester Secondary College will produce an interactive art and craft DVD to document local seniors pursuing their hobbies which include quilting, painting, weaving, print making and sculpting. |
| Kinglake Ranges Neighbourhood House Inc. | 'Art of the Third Age' – seniors and school students will share stories of living at King Lake, creating the opportunity for mentoring and inter-generational activities and documented in a DVD, a mural and a publication. |
| Yarrawonga Neighbourhood House Services Inc. | 'The Revolving Doors' – the defining values, experiences and events in the lives of residents of a 100-bed aged care facility will be celebrated in a series of digital mini-movies combining cultural heritage, oral history and music. |
| Enmaraleek Association Inc. (Broadmeadows) | 'Enmaraleek Elders' – Indigenous elder women tell their stories through public performance and the production of a publication to the wider community. |
| Old Courthouse Community Centre Inc. (Casterton) | 'The Collectors' – seniors will be both the subjects and the makers of four short films documenting stories told by community researchers about local personalities from the past and present. |
| Mount Street Neighbourhood House (Glen Waverley) | 'Yesterday, When I was Young' – a large collage of paintings and drawings by seniors of their childhood will be photographed and filmed by local students and a camera club, and will then be exhibited in partnership with local community groups. |
| Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre | 'Gallivanting in Glenroy' – a revue-style theatre production featuring song, dance, scripted cameo appearances, and circus, interspersed with digital art and multi-media will showcase seniors and portray life as a senior in 21st Century Glenroy. |
| Hopetoun and District Neighbourhood House | 'Faded not Jaded' – seniors from Hopetoun will be creatively involved in filming a DVD featuring interviews, group discussions, demonstrations and re-enactments. |
| Wonthaggi Neighbourhood Centre | 'Wise Old Art: Exploring the Myths, Realities and Gifts of Ageing' – an art therapist will facilitate the creation and exhibition of artworks – painting, drawing, photography and sculpture. |
